Painting; art; how did all start? Let us think that it started with the need to create, with the burst of ideas, forms and colors that we feel urged to express, to place in a surface for our own enjoyment, for the magic of it all or for the rest of the world to see. It is almost like an excruciating rush to take it out of our souls, and it leaves you drained, exhausted, but with a feeling of accomplishment.
The story of painting goes back to the cavemen, some 35,000 years ago, on the walls of the caves where they lived. They depicted what was important to them: hunting animals, for example. Maybe they looked at a bump on the wall and imagined it looked like an animal, the same way we sometimes look at the sky and see a figure formation in the clouds, who knows? And then completed the painting.Perhaps they saw some kind of magic ritual in it. Since the images are far back into the caves, one theory could also be that they needed to "visualize" the killings first, depicted on the walls, to act upon them.
Good examples are Lascaux in France and Altamira in Spain. Have any of you been at those caves or seen replicas at the museums? Please share your thoughts with us!
